Retirement reception set for Vik Whalen

Victoria (Vik) Whalen

The Eppley Institute will hold a retirement reception for Victoria (Vik) Whalen Oct. 22 from 2:30-4 p.m. in the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, Room 9.12.330. Whalen will be retiring on Oct. 31 after 30 years at UNMC/Nebraska Medicine.

Whalen graduated from the UNMC in 1986 as a clinical laboratory scientist from UNMC’s Allied Health Program. She has held a variety of positions within the med center system, including medical technologist, senior systems analyst, hematology/oncology database manager and, most recently, scientific review committee coordinator in the Protocol Review and Monitoring System Office in the Eppley Institute.

Ashok Mudgapalli, Ph.D., called Whalen a wonderful person to work with.

“I had an opportunity to work with Vik for about three years on the oncobase and clinical trial web portal,” Dr. Mudgapalli said. “Vik has an in-depth understanding of oncology clinical informatics domain and also of the technology behind its implementation at UNMC.”

Dr. Mudgapalli called Whalen instrumental in driving the business requirements on developing the clinical trial web portal for the oncology/hematology division.”

“All of the Research IT Office personnel appreciated her meticulous, analytical view of the subject and discipline she applied to the projects. We wish her all the best in all her future endeavors, and we will miss her expertise and pleasant personality.”

The campus is invited to the event.
