Message from the Director

2018 INBRE Scholar Molly Myers discusses her research project at the Nebraska INBRE Annual Meeting held in early August at the Lied Lodge in Nebraska City, Neb.

Fresh off my Fall PUI campus visits with Dr. Julianne Soukup, we were happy to hear that all of our first year Scholars have started in their new labs; second year Scholars are progressing with their research; faculty are continuing their exciting research; and a strong scientific culture is present on all our campuses.

Fresh off the press….I wanted to give an update on our grant renewal that was submitted in March. We received a score from the NIH study section of a 2.1. To give some perspective, when the grant was funded in 2015, the score was a 3.3. Just in case you are not sure…the lower the score the better!

I want to thank everyone involved with the grant writing process for all their hard work…this was truly a TEAM effort. We will not have the official word it will be funded until council meets in January, but I think we are in GOOD shape for the next five years.

The internal DRPP grant review process is on schedule and we look forward to announcing our next cohort of DRPP PUI faculty on Feb. 1.

The DRPP program is critical towards creating the scientific culture on our campuses and giving students the opportunity to experience biomedical research.

Autumn is here and the weather is cooling and the leaves are falling off the trees, but stay warm and I look forward to seeing everyone during my Spring visits.
