Alumni weekend set for Oct. 11-12

Reuniting with friends, learning about campus growth, and celebrating distinguished alumni will all be part of UNMC Alumni Reunion Weekend, Oct. 11-12, when more than 250 alumni and guests will return to Omaha and the UNMC campus.

Alumni from the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy and the Graduate Studies Program will participate, with class years spanning 1954 to 2014.

Activities during Alumni Weekend include:

  • the “Welcome Back Lunch,” featuring UNMC speakers on global health security;
  • an overview of iEXCEL and the Dr. Edwin G. & Dorothy Balbach Davis Global Center;
  • oral history recordings, in partnership with the McGoogan Library and the College of Nursing History Museum;
  • a College of Nursing overview on telehealth innovations and interprofessional education;
  • a campus tour in a classroom;
  • tours of the new College of Pharmacy and the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center;
  • the “Living the Legacy” Alumni Reunion Reception;
  • a narrated Ollie the Trolley tour of Omaha;
  • class parties across Omaha, and more.

The campus community is invited to the Oct. 11 “Living the Legacy” Alumni Reunion Reception, which will take place in the Truhlsen Campus Events Center from 5:30-7 p.m. During this event, each respective alumni council will recognize their notable alumni and the 50-year alumni will receive special recognition. Tickets to attend this reception are $20/person and include food and beverage.

  • Kelly Caverzagie, M.D. ’01, Dedication to Student Excellence Award; and
  • Sheritta Strong, M.D. ’04, Early Career Achievement Award.

College of Nursing Alumni

  • Lynne Buchanan, Ph.D., ’79, ’83, ’99, Distinguished Alumnus Award;
  • Michelle Young, ’09, ’13; Nursing Excellence Award; and
  • LaDonna Tworek, Honorary Alumnus Award.

College of Pharmacy Alumni

  • Gary Stroy ’67, Distinguished Alumnus Award (Presented during May 2019 Convocation)

Graduate Studies Program Alumni

  • Gary Sieck, Ph.D. ’76, Distinguished Alumnus Award;
  • Christine Cutucache, Ph.D. ’12, Early Career Achievement Award; and
  • David Crouse, Ph.D., Honorary Alumnus Award.
