Dele Davies, M.D., named to new council for American Academy of Pediatrics

University of Nebraska Medical Center Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dele Davies, M.D., was recently named to the Council on Disaster Preparedness and Recovery through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

The newly created council replaced and expanded the efforts of the AAP’s former Disaster Preparedness Advisory Council.

Dr. Davies, who has been at UNMC since 2012, was one of 11 members appointed to serve on the council’s executive committee.

"Children represent an important segment of the population and have unique physical, mental, behavioral, developmental, communication, therapeutic, and social needs that require advance consideration in disaster planning," Dr. Davies said. "I am honored to be named a member of this new council. We will encourage children's needs to be considered and addressed in all aspects of disaster preparedness and recovery and to provide key toolkits for providers to do so."

Dr. Davies also serves as the chair of the disaster medicine group, a subcommittee of the 13-member National Biodefense Safety Board that is advisory to the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.

The American Academy of Pediatrics is an organization of 67,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults.
