How I fell in love with science and education: During my education at South Dakota State University, I became especially interested in human anatomy. Following completion of the anatomy course, I became an intern, dissector, teaching assistant and preceptor for the course, in addition to completing an extensive honors cadaver dissection project. These experiences expanded my interest in anatomical sciences, especially in the context of teaching and learning, and led me to pursue a doctorate degree. In doing so, I focused my graduate research on the effects of a novel confidence-based, individualized remediation strategy on student learning and final grades in a multi-campus human anatomy curriculum. My teaching and research experiences increased my interest in these domains and confirmed my desire to become an assistant professor.

Degrees:

  • Ph.D., biomedical science, University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences, 2019

Three things people may not know about me:

  • I love dogs and unique names. I have a miniature schnauzer named Javert (named after the French Police Inspector in “Les Miserables”).
  • I love to fish.
  • I like unusual music. A song mix for me commonly includes sea shanties and Irish drinking songs to freestyle blues and uncommon oldies.
