Interim university president to be installed Aug. 16

When the University of Nebraska Board of Regents meets Friday, Aug. 16, a highlight of the day will be the formal installation of Interim President Susan Fritz, Ph.D.

Dr. Fritz, a 30-year veteran of the university who has served as executive vice president and provost since 2012, will become the first woman to lead the NU system when she assumes her new role on Aug. 15. She succeeds outgoing President Hank Bounds, Ph.D.

The installation ceremony for Dr. Fritz will begin shortly after the board meeting convenes at 11 a.m. and will include opening remarks from Board of Regents Chairman Tim Clare, comments from representatives of key university constituencies, and a response from Dr. Fritz.

The meeting will be held at Varner Hall, 3835 Holdrege St., in Lincoln. Presentations will begin at 10 a.m., and the board meeting will begin at 11 a.m. All sessions are open to the public and will be audio-streamed live.

The board’s agenda also includes an update on the University of Nebraska’s flood recovery efforts. Nebraska Extension Dean Chuck Hibberd, Ph.D., who is leading a university-wide team in responding to the spring flooding, will speak, as will University of Nebraska at Kearney Chancellor Doug Kristensen, J.D., whose campus played a key role in responding to the more recent Kearney-area flooding.

The board also will hear a presentation on information security led by Bret Blackman , NU’s new vice president and chief information officer.
