In 2016, Nebraska Medicine began using Dragon Medical voice recognition software for physicians to dictate notes into One Chart and other programs.
Three years later, the process to request the Dragon Medical application has now been streamlined to make it easier.
“Originally, when we created the request process, department administrators or whomever was requesting access to use the application would have to download, sign and upload a Dragon contract which spelled out the terms of use,” said Matthew Marciniak, senior systems analyst, Information Technology Services. “This process has now been replaced with a simple ‘terms of use’ button the requester will check that contains the same information.”
Marciniak says this update is expected to streamline the Dragon request process, which ultimately leads to more efficiency for our patients and providers.
In addition, with Dragon, the PowerMic Mobile app that allows dictation into Dragon Medical via the providers’ phones, remains available for departments to use without a fee.
“Currently, we have about 1,400 user accounts, more than 15,000 voice commands, and in July we logged about 82,000 minutes of dictation,” he says. “This tool really helps us provide better care for our patients.”
