Campus leaders condemn propaganda

Editor’s Note: UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., and Nebraska Medicine CEO James Linder, M.D., have issued the following message to faculty, staff and students in response to two racist cards found along sidewalks on our campus.

Dear Colleagues,

We have been disheartened to learn that racist literature – in the form of business cards urging readers toward an international propaganda website – has been found on our campus.

We are dismayed to have this kind of hate strike so close to home. But, we also see this as an opportunity to stand up for our Med Center values.

We, as Nebraska Medicine and UNMC, condemn this messaging in the strongest terms.

Let us be clear: We at Nebraska Medicine and UNMC are committed to an atmosphere of inclusivity. This inclusivity extends to everyone – be they patients, employees, students and visitors to our campus. We all are a part of the UNMC and Nebraska Medicine community.

Together, we are always better.

If you find any further evidence of this type of activity on our campus, please reach out to our security. If you need support, or just to be heard, we urge you to not hesitate in turning to security, available counseling resources, or to leadership. We are here, and listening.

Today, we all stand together as a Medical Center.

Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.

James Linder, M.D.
