How I fell in love with family medicine: As an undergraduate, I always knew I wanted to be involved in health care but ended up changing my major several times (athletic training to pre-physical therapy to finally pre-medicine). Family medicine was always appealing to me because of the variety of patients and diseases processes that we get to encounter on a daily basis. I loved being able to develop relationships with patients. Family medicine also offered me the opportunity to sub specialize in non-operative sports medicine.

Degrees:

  • B.S, Missouri State University, Springfield, Mo.;
  • M.D., University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis
  • Family medicine residency, UNMC/Offutt Air Force Base
  • Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine, Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Allegheny Health Network-St. Vincent, Erie, Pa.
  • Faculty Development Fellowship, UNC Chapel Hill Department of Family Medicine, Chapel Hill, N.C.

Memberships:

  • American Academy of Family Physicians

Three things people may not know about me:

  • I got the opportunity to defer my admission to medical school and be a full-time high school teacher and coach for a year. It totally changed my outlook on life and my goals once I entered the medical profession.
  • I am passionate about sports, particularly college football, college wrestling, Manchester United soccer, Memphis Grizzlies basketball, St. Louis Cardinals baseball and St. Louis Blues hockey.
  • I love history, especially U.S. military history.
