Marvin Stancil, MD

Dr. Stancil to be honored by Urban League of Nebraska
Marvin Stancil, M.D., associate professor in the UNMC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, has been selected to receive a 2019 African American Leadership Award in the category of health. The award will be presented by the Urban League of Nebraska, and is based upon Dr. Stancil's significant successes and contributions to the African American community and the city of Omaha. Dr. Stancil will receive the award at the Annual African-American Leadership Awards Gala on May 31.
 
Creighton University honors Dr. Ernest with its Alumni Merit Award 
Eric Ernest, M.D., assistant professor, emergency medicine, was one of nine individuals to receive the Creighton University Alumni Merit Award this year. The award recognizes outstanding Creighton alumni from each school and college. It honors individuals who live life with high moral standards and are passionate leaders who touch, enrich, encourage and inspire others while serving selflessly and making the world a better place.
 
Dr. Ernest, who was honored by Creighton’s College of Professional Studies, was recognized for being "a prominent contributor to the field of emergency medicine." His work as an emergency medicine physician for UNMC/Nebraska Medicine was cited as well as his efforts leading several emergency medical services (EMS) agencies. In addition, Creighton saluted Dr. Ernest for his involvement with his profession on both a local and national level and for his mentorship of EMS personnel at numerous local fire and emergency response departments.
 
Dr. Ernest holds two degrees from Creighton, earning his undergraduate degree in 2006 and his medical degree in 2010.

Dr. Mohring finishes Boston Marathon
Stephen Mohring, M.D., assistant professor of general internal medicine in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, ran in the Boston Marathon on April 15 and posted a time of 3:01:21.
 
NASA Nebraska Space Grant competition accepting applications
The NASA Nebraska Space Grant annual competition for mini-grant and fellowship funding is now open.
Changes this year include:

  • Applications will be submitted through a new web portal;
  • Citizenship requirements have been relaxed in the mini-grant program; and
  • Fellowships require the faculty mentor to upload a letter of recommendation in the web portal.

The NASA Nebraska Space Grant Mini-Grant Competition includes grants for research and higher education. Meanwhile, the Fellowship Competition is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. The deadline for applications is May 20.

August date set for UNMC barbecue
UNMC faculty, staff and students are invited to the "We Are UNMC" barbecue, set for 3:30-6:30 p.m. on Aug. 28 at the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza.
