Dr. Ernest honored by his alma mater
Eric Ernest, M.D., assistant professor, emergency medicine, was one of nine individuals to receive the Creighton University Alumni Merit Award this year. The award recognizes outstanding Creighton alumni from each school and college. It honors individuals who live life with high moral standards and are passionate leaders who touch, enrich, encourage and inspire others while serving selflessly and making the world a better place.
Dr. Ernest, who was honored by Creighton’s College of Professional Studies, was recognized for being “a prominent contributor to the field of emergency medicine.” His work as an emergency medicine physician for UNMC/Nebraska Medicine was cited as well as his efforts leading several emergency medical services (EMS) agencies. In addition, Creighton saluted Dr. Ernest for his involvement with his profession on both a local and national level and for his mentorship of EMS personnel at numerous local fire and emergency response departments.
Dr. Ernest holds two degrees from Creighton, earning his undergraduate degree in 2006 and his medical degree in 2010.
Nebraska’s 10th Annual Lymphoma Walk to be held Saturday
Nebraska’s 10th annual Lymphoma Walk will be held Saturday, April 27, at Mahoney State Park. The fundraising event, which is hosted by the Lymphoma Research Foundation, will begin at 10 a.m. with registration at 9 a.m. at the park pavilion.
Mahoney State Park is located just off I-80 at exit 426, between Omaha and Lincoln.
There is no cost to participate in the walk. A free barbecue lunch will be held for all attendees following the walk. Though the event is free, a one-day park permit is required for purchase at the park gate. The cost for a Nebraska licensed vehicle is $6, or $8 for a non-Nebraska licensed vehicle.
Strollers and friendly, leashed pets are welcome.
The Lymphoma Walk is a 5K fun-filled, non-competitive event that offers individuals and teams an opportunity to walk to support those whose lives have been touched by lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph nodes. About 450 new cases of lymphoma are diagnosed in Nebraska each year.
Proceeds from the walk will benefit Nebraskans through research grants and patient services. To date, $650,000 has been raised through walk participants and sponsors.
Nick Howe, a firefighter and lymphoma survivor, is the walk’s Honored Hero. Howe was treated at UNMC/Nebraska Medicine, where he received CAR T-cell therapy, a form of gene therapy that was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2017.

Durbin named to Nebraska Pharmacists Association board

Cory Durbin, a second-year student in the UNMC College of Pharmacy, has been named a student member of the board of directors of the Nebraska Pharmacists Association.
He was preceded by Adam Cheloha who will be graduating from the UNMC College of Pharmacy next week. Durbin is vice president of his class, and has varied experience working as an intern in a handful of pharmacies.
Durbin will be joining two UNMC/Nebraska Medicine associates who hold key positions with the NPA. Ally Dering-Anderson, Pharm.D., clinical associate professor in the College of Pharmacy, is the current NPA president. Pam Miller, Pharm.D., an inpatient pharmacist with Nebraska Medicine and an adjunct faculty member with the College of Pharmacy, is president-elect for the NPA.
Congrats to Dr. Ernest on this great recognition from Creighton University. He's an impressive young man — glad to see Creighton acknowledged him for his outstanding work!
