Zoom to replace Vidyo conferencing system

The web conferencing tool Zoom is being used across the University of Nebraska system.

Information Technology Services (ITS) Video Operations is working to retire the Vidyo high-definition desktop video conferencing system that has been in use since August of 2011.

Vidyo has served the business, academic and telehealth needs for many years. The system is based on older servers and technology that is not comparable to today’s solutions.

In February 2018, UNMC and Nebraska Medicine, along with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Nebraska at Kearney adopted Zoom as our supported video conferencing desktop solution. Over the past year, Zoom has proven to be an exceptional replacement. Many former Vidyo users have adopted Zoom and found it be an excellent replacement and a preferred solution.

The target date to retire Vidyo is March 1, 2020. Remaining Vidyo users are encouraged to begin transitioning to Zoom today.

For current clinicians who are utilizing Vidyo for telemedicine and would like help getting yourselves and your sites up and running on Zoom, please reach out to the telehealth department. They will be happy to assist you in this this transition. All new clinical programs/clinicians implementing telehealth will be brought up using Zoom.

See more information on Zoom.
