Nebraska Medical Orchestra to perform today

The Nebraska Medical Orchestra at their inaugural holiday concert.

The Nebraska Medical Orchestra, featuring soloists from UNMC and the University of Nebraska at Omaha School of Music, will perform in the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center lobby today at 12:30 p.m.

The orchestra, under the direction of Matthew Brooks, was created in 2018 as a collaborative project between UNMC and the UNO School of Music. It is comprised of students, faculty, and staff from UNMC and Nebraska Medicine with the support of UNO School of Music faculty and students as mentors.

This smaller chamber performance will feature UNMC physicians Sarah Holstein, M.D., and Melinda Chen, M.D. (who also is a pediatric endocrinologist at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center), on flutes, with UNO violin faculty member Mary Perkinson performing Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4. Also featured will be guest soloist Kristin Jonina Taylor, UNO piano faculty, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 4.
