Martha Dawson, D.N.P., to discuss career growth

Martha Dawson, D.N.P., will speak on professional development from 4-5:30 p.m. on March 29. All UNMC students and employees are invited to attend the event, which is sponsored by the Emerging Professionals Program.

Dr. Dawson will provide what she believes are the essential tools to maximize professional growth potential by developing knowledge of the “who, where, when, and how” for the success of a person’s career.

Based in Birmingham, Ala., Dr. Dawson is an experienced, dynamic nurse and health care leader promoting evidence-based clinical and management practice from the bedside to the boardroom. She shares her knowledge with groups on topics ranging from leadership and staff development to community health and management, making many stops in between.

She has served as the principal investigator, project director and coordinator on workforce grants exceeding $2.1 million. She is investing in the next generation of nurse leaders with the Martha A. Dawson Genesis Nurse Leader Scholarship.

Dr. Dawson is a national leader in research focusing on career barriers, career mobility and development, succession planning, coaching effectiveness of entry and middle management, health disparity, and workforce diversity and planning. Her teaching interest includes human resources management, leadership, administration, finance, quality tools and implementation science, health systems, management and leadership theories, health disparities, and health ethics.
