The Internal Revenue Service deadline for submission of 2018 flexible spending account (FSA) claims is March 31. Employees with a balance remaining in their 2018 FSA should be aware that eligible dates of service for expenses are Jan. 1, 2018 through Dec. 31, 2018.
Claims must be submitted to WageWorks in order to receive reimbursement. Contributions not reimbursed will be forfeited. The university’s plan does not include a carryover option.
As a reminder, employees enrolled in the University of Nebraska, Blue Cross and Blue Shield medical and/or dental plans for 2018, may go on to nebraskablue.com, under MyBlue and print out/save their Explanation of Benefits (EOB) summary for the entire year. This summary can then be submitted for documentation. Employees also may contact Blue Cross Blue Shield for a copy of EOBs and the EOBs of eligible dependents (if applicable) by calling 1-888-592-8963.
A summary of all prescriptions for the entire year may be obtained through the employee’s pharmacy. However, due to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines, employees will need to make this request in person.
To get reimbursed, dates of service must have been incurred during the calendar year for 2018. Please do not use your card to submit 2018 claims. The card can only be used in the current calendar year.
To check your balance and/or submit a claim, please take the following actions:
- Log on to Firefly. For help with user names or passwords, call 402-559-BUZZ (2899).
- Click on the Employee Self Service (ESS) Tab.
- Under the ESS Benefits heading, click the Flexible Spending Account tile.
- This will launch your WageWorks account into another window. If you do not see this loading, check your internet settings. The pop-up blocker must be turned off for the account to launch.
