To mark Women’s History Month in March, UNMC is sponsoring two presentations.
Representatives from CityMatCH will speak from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Eppley Science Hall, Room 3010, on “CityMatCH: Who We Are, What We Have Achieved, and How You Can Help.
CityMatCH’s mission is to strengthen public health leaders and organizations to promote equity and improve the health of urban women, families, and communities.
CityMatCH is grounded in the philosophy that all children and families deserve to be healthy and achieve their optimal growth and development in the physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual aspects of their lives. The responsibility for assuring this is shared by each individual and his or her family, the community, and government at the federal, state, and local levels. Children and families in urban areas have unique needs and deserve special attention. These needs must be effectively addressed in order for all children, and ultimately our society, to achieve full potential. Local public health agencies are a critical component of the collaborative effort that is needed to improve the health of children and families in urban areas.
Ronda Johnson, a licensed life coach, will speak from 1:30-2:30 p.m. March 20 at the Eppley Science Hall, Room 3010, on “Boundaries: Let’s Get REAL.”
Perhaps you feel like you have to say yes to everyone’s requests. Maybe you find yourself readily taking responsibility for others’ feelings and problems. Or perhaps you focus so much on being loving and unselfish that you’ve forgotten your own limits and limitations. Or maybe it’s all of the above.
Johnson will speak about learning when to say yes and know how to say no in order to take control of your life and set healthy boundaries with your spouse, children, friends, parents, co-workers, and even yourself.
Be prepared to hear answers to some of life’s toughest questions such as:
- Can I set limits and still be a loving person?
- What are legitimate boundaries?
- How do I effectively manage my digital life so that it doesn’t control me?
- What if someone is upset or hurt by my boundaries?
- How do I answer someone who wants my time, love, energy, or money?
- Why do I feel guilty or afraid when I consider setting boundaries?
- Aren’t boundaries selfish?
Will the presentation on March 20th be recorded and available to be viewed later?
