Remembering: UNMC supporter Sally Malashock

Edward Malashock, M.D., and Sally Malashock

Longtime UNMC supporter Sally Malashock died Feb. 24, at age 94.

Malashock and her husband, Edward, a urologic surgeon who served on the UNMC faculty from 1965 until his retirement in 1989, are the namesakes of the atrium inside the Dr. Edwin G. and Dorothy Balbach Davis Global Center.

In December 2017, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents recognized the couple’s generosity and dedication to UNMC by naming the space the Dr. Edward and Sally Malashock Atrium.

The couple established the Dr. Edward and Sally Malashock Fund for the Interprofessional Experiential Center for Enduring Learning (iEXCEL). In 1989, they created the Edward and Sally Malashock Chair of Urologic Surgery, a permanently endowed fund at the NU Foundation that provides annual salary, research and program support for urologic surgery. The Malashock Chair is held by Chad LaGrange, M.D.

Malashock served as president of the Nebraska Medical Center Faculty Wives, president of the Clarkson Hospital Service League, a member of the Clarkson Hospital Board of Directors and a trustee of the University of Nebraska Foundation.

Her community service also includes time on the Temple Israel board, chairwoman of the Ak-Sar-Ben Ball Committee, president of the Omaha Council of Jewish Women, president of Loveland School Community Club, a member of the Omaha Symphony Showhouse Patron’s Party, and a board member of the Nebraska Foundation for the Visually Handicapped.

Malashock is survived by her husband; children, Mark, Jim and Jan Egermayer; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Temple Israel, the Jewish Federation of Omaha Foundation Jewish Senior Outreach Fund and Learning for ALL.
