Symposium explored maintaining a healthy work system

When health care professionals are healthy in body and mind, their patients benefit, said Nancy Nankivil, director of professional satisfaction and practice sustainability with the American Medical Association.

Nankivil spoke to more than 140 health care professionals at the fourth annual conference called “Elevating the Conversation: The Ecology of Well-being in the Health Professions,” held Feb. 15 at the Scott Conference Center on the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus.

The daylong symposium explored the challenges and opportunities of maintaining a healthy work system; current research on fun in the work setting; and redesigning work load and workflow for effective teams.

Attendees also learned about wellness initiatives currently taking place and medical humanities.

“Finding joy, purpose and meaning in your job is an important resiliency measure to combat burnout,” Nankivil said.
