At UNMC, intramural sports aren’t just for students. For decades, faculty and staff teams have formed the backbone of many intramural leagues. In fact, this rich tradition of athletic involvement goes back over 100 years to the days of The Omaha Medical College, the precursor to UNMC.

Participation in intramural leagues has surged to new levels following the Center for Healthy Living’s 2016 renovation, leading to the expansion of existing leagues and the addition of new sports. Volleyball remains the perennial favorite among employees and students alike, but, with the addition of “Elite” and “Recreational” divisions across other sports, pickleball, basketball, and futsal (indoor soccer) look to challenge volleyball’s dominance.
Sign up by March 1 for a reduced registration fee ($15 off). New team registration will be accepted beyond March 1 until leagues are filled. To learn more, continue reading below or click the following links to visit the intramural website.
- Volleyball (co-ed)
- Pickleball
- Basketball (co-ed & men’s)
- Futsal (aka Indoor Soccer)
- Matball (aka Big Base Kickball, co-ed)
Competition at your level
New for 2019, the volleyball, pickleball, basketball, and futsal (indoor soccer) leagues have been split into “Elite” and “Recreational” divisions, meaning you will get more meaningful games against teams playing at your speed, whether you’re looking for a fun, after-work pastime or to challenge yourself against the best competitors at the university.League structure
Each team plays one game a week at the Center for Healthy Living gymnasium (no membership required). Leagues consist of two parts: a four-seven week regular season and a postseason playoff tournament. Tournament winners get championship t-shirts, bragging rights and the brand new intramural championship trophy.Flexible Scheduling
Leagues are organized to fit busy schedules. During registration, teams may request game times and their preferred bye. Every effort will be made to accommodate these requests. Most league games are played from 6-9 p.m. (4-7 p.m. for pickleball), but if any scheduling conflicts arise after the season begins, teams also may work to reschedule individual games with sufficient notice (at least 24-48 hours in advance).
