State Sen. Mike Hilgers, who represents Nebraska Legislative District 21, toured UNMC in December, visiting the iEXCEL Visualization Hub and the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit before meeting with Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.
“I’ve heard a lot about the great work that UNMC’s doing, and I know that UNMC is on the cutting edge of medical resource and innovation,” Sen. Hilgers said. “I wanted to take the opportunity to see some of it for myself.”
Sen. Hilgers said he was impressed by the iEXCEL Visualization Hub and the health care training technology on display there.
“Not only is it incredible technology, but you can see how incredibly useful it will be and lead to incredibly powerful, practical outcomes,” he said. “We had a conversation about comparing it to the technology used to train airline pilots, and how that kind of training, which can drastically reduce catastrophes in the air, applies here. I can see how this would be a tremendous lifesaver and cost-saver in the coming years.”
Sen. Hilgers noted that he comes from a family of medical professionals and innovators.
“I have a great deal of admiration and respect for the work that the people at UNMC do,” he said. “I want them to know that we support them and are behind them.”
