Ronnie Green, Ph.D., chancellor of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, recently toured the medical center to learn more about UNMC’s iEXCEL initiative and related technology. UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., hosted his colleague’s visit, along with Pamela Boyers, Ph.D., associate vice chancellor, and members of the iEXCEL team.
iEXCEL, the Interprofessional Experiential Center for Enduring Learning, a UNMC teaching and learning initiative which emphasizes interprofessional collaboration and experiential learning, uses advanced, immersive simulation technologies — including augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR).
“I’ve been following the development of iEXCEL on paper, and in the press,” Dr. Green said. “I’ve looked forward to having the opportunity to visit for some time, in order to better understand the technology and the ways in which it’s being used.”
And what did he think of what he saw at UNMC?
“My mind is spinning on how we could use some of these applications on the UNL campus,” Dr. Green said.
“We look forward to continued collaboration across the University of Nebraska campuses, sharing our experiences in technology and content development,” Dr. Gold said.
Dr. Gold noted that UNMC, state and local government, and many private benefactors, already have made a significant investment in iEXCEL and its future headquarters, the Dr. Edwin Davis & Dorothy Balbach Davis Global Center. The visit was an opportunity to demonstrate several of the student and faculty developed innovative learning concepts hosted in the iEXCEL Visualization Hub.
“You can see how we could use these applications, the possibilities,” Dr. Green continued.
Dr. Gold invited Dr. Green and his colleagues to visit the UNMC facilities to continue the exploration of areas for potential collaboration.
