State Sen. Dave Murman, newly elected legislator for Nebraska District 38, comprised of seven counties near the Hastings-Kearney area, recently toured UNMC.

Sen. Murman toured the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center and the Mind & Brain Health Labs during his visit.

His goal, he said, was to “be better informed on what kind of facilities we have in Nebraska, and learn more about the medical center’s importance to our state, our people, the whole Midwest and the world.”

Sen. Murman said he was no stranger to the impact health issues can have.
“I’ve known a lot of people — family and friends and neighbors — who have been impacted by cancer,” he said. “My daughter has a neurological disorder called Rett syndrome, as well as other types of health issues.

“I felt it was important to visit UNMC to see what the state can do and should do to enhance the research and treatment of health problems.”
