Nebraska Medical Orchestra to debut Dec. 5

UNMC and Nebraska Medicine families are invited to the inaugural performance of the Nebraska Medical Orchestra.

The orchestra will perform Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Durham Outpatient Center Atrium. The one-hour concert is lightly themed for the holidays, with a few other standard works like “Finlandia” from Finnish composer Jean Sibelius and “Unfinished Symphony” from Franz Schubert, a German composer. Parking will be available in the connecting Lot 2 garage.

Hosted by the Healing Arts Program, the event is in collaboration with the UNO School of Music and UNO’s Matthew Brooks, D.M.A., director of orchestras.

Due to limited seating, please RSVP by Nov. 30 to healingarts@unmc.edu.

The orchestra was founded in August as a partnership between the UNO School of Music and UNMC/Nebraska Medicine. The ensemble rehearses once a week and is comprised of about 50 people affiliated with UNMC/Nebraska Medicine, including students (50 percent), faculty (20 percent) and staff/other (30 percent).

Campus leaders say the creative outlet boosts morale and mental health and helps enhance the culture of wellness on campus.
