OT’s Pleiss is board-certified in pediatrics

In October, the Munroe-Meyer Institute’s Monica Pleiss received word from the AOTA Board for Advanced and Specialty Certification that she was approved for Board Certification in Pediatrics.

This is a distinction accomplished by less than 1 percent of all occupational therapists nationally.

“Monica invested a great deal of her personal time to write and polish the narrative reflections required for each criterion in this portfolio application process,” said Janice Flegle, Ph.D., director of occupational therapy. “I saw her first drafts well over a year ago, and her final application portfolio was submitted last June. Application portfolios and evidence are reviewed by three different reviewers, whose scores and comments are submitted to the BASC. The BASC analyzes the reviewer scores, and collaboratively makes a determination about the applicant’s standing.

“I am particularly proud of the fact that Monica was not asked to submit additional information or revise any of her narratives, as the vast majority of applications reviewed are returned for minor (or major) revision, and some just do not pass.”

Feedback from the board noted that, holistically speaking, Pleiss’ portfolio served as a sample for others to follow.

“The applicant was thorough in her self-reflection and conveyed all criteria in a comprehensive manner,” reviewers said.
