Human Genetics Laboratory emphasized outreach efforts in October

Colleagues at the Human Genetics Lab were out in the community in force in October.

  • Scott Smith, Ph.D., associate director, and Joanna Spaulding, genetic counselor, joined MMI providers at the Omaha Public Schools Special Education Family Night.
  • The laboratory showcased its research services through a table exhibit and networking sessions during the two-day Great Plains IDeA-CTR annual scientific meeting at UNMC’s Truhlsen Events Center; to conclude the meeting, a select group of researchers received a laboratory tour.
  • Laboratory genetic counselors Spaulding and Sarah Carpenter helped staff the MMI table at the Down Syndrome Alliance Step Up Walk, and Evan Roberts, molecular genetic technologist, led the walk-team through Aksarben Village.
  • Spaulding and Sarah Carpenter were present at the Omaha Women’s Health & Wellness Conference to provide information about genetic testing for womens health.
