Mina Davis, a candidate for Nebraska Legislative District 8, toured UNMC in October.
Davis, whose district encompasses part of Omaha, met with university leaders and toured the iEXCEL Visualization Hub as part of her visit.
“I really wanted to see what was going on at UNMC,” Davis said. “I’ve heard such great things; I have friends who have chosen to go through post-secondary education here.
“I’m fairly excited to see just what levels of innovations there are, and I want to help showcase that,” she said. “If others understood and knew what UNMC was about, maybe they would understand that we shouldn’t be cutting funding, we should be focusing on building what we have, being excellent and saying ‘Hey, we are leaders.'”
Davis said she was ready to work hard to protect the university.
“I had somebody who works here reach out to me about what the cuts in funding have done over the past couple of years, and in me, you have an ally ready to be a strong advocate.”
