How I fell in love with dermatology:
I initially wanted to pursue pathology, as I loved understanding the details of disease processes, but I missed patient interactions. Dr. Hunter, the pathologist who taught the majority of our medical curriculum, made me aware that dermatologists incorporate an understanding of histopathology of the skin into the practice of dermatology. Shortly after I began to investigate dermatology as a specialty, I realized that not only did it satisfy the interest I had in pathology, but also was a fantastic specialty unlike any other. Even though dermatology seems very narrow in scope it is actually quite broad. You see a large range of disease processes including neoplastic, infectious, autoimmune, metabolic, psychiatric, among others, and deal with all ages from newborns to the elderly. It’s both procedural and medical as well. It’s truly a diverse and exciting specialty.

Three things people may not know about me:
- I was born and raised in Connecticut and spent the first 25 years of my life there until attending Creighton University for medical school.
- That was my foray into the Midwest and I really enjoyed life in Omaha.
- Fortunately, my lovely wife agreed to adventure with me to UNMC to start my dermatology career and in August 2018 our first baby was born at UNMC — a true Omahan!
