Name: Mark Miller, M.D.
Medical school you attended/year you graduated: University of Rochester, Class of 2016
Residency/fellowship at UNMC: Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery
Program director: Samuel Pate, M.D.
How long is your training program and how long have you been at UNMC: 5 years. This is my third year.
What do you like the most about your training program:
I love the people and the work environment. We have a cohesive group, and it's a really healthy environment where I can be challenged and grow as a physician.
What challenges do you foresee in graduate medical education in the future:
1. Continuity of care can be difficult to achieve as a resident. The care of a single patient can often be fragmented between several different providers in several different locations, making it challenging for residents to manage complex cases.
2. With an ever-expanding amount of available resources and learning modalities, I think that identifying really good mentors to help navigate your career and patient care becomes even more important and can be challenging.
List some accomplishments that you are proud of:
1. I was nominated by my peers and awarded a humanitarian award for some of my work with the homeless in Rochester, N.Y.
2. I've competed in several triathlon and running races throughout medical school and residency
3. I'm proud of being able to juggle residency and maintain a fairly functional home with my wife and our two girls.
Tell us three things about you that others may not know:
1. I pursued a career in photography in Manhattan before medical school, and then had a reality check and pursued medicine instead.
2. I speak Spanish and Papiamentu (native language of Aruba)
3. I am a huge Wisconsin Badgers fan!
