UNMC and the University of Nebraska at Omaha Office of Multicultural Affairs are holding two events to mark Hispanic Heritage Month.

On Tuesday, Cinemateca at Films Streams will show “Vazante,” sponsored by UNO’s Office of Latino/Latin American Studies (OLLAS), at 7 p.m.

“Vazante” examines colonial life in the 1800s. The film takes a hard look at slavery and racism in central Brazil. This movie is subtitled and is intended for an adult audience. For more information on Cinemateca, click here.

After the movie, stay to hear from UNO’s Department of Black Studies chair Cynthia Robinson, Ph.D. The content of this film is for an adult audience.

On Thursday, UNMC will host Natasha Carrizosa, winner of the 2013 National Poetry Award for Multicultural Poet of the Year, from 2-3 p.m., at the Durham Research Center, Room 1005.

Carrizosa’s presentation will focus on multiculturalism and the arts. Carrizosa will speak about the appreciation and beauty of the diversity that lives within us all. Raised as the daughter of an African-American mother and Mexican father, her writing reflects the dichotomy of these two rich cultures. She has performed her work and conducted workshops for audiences in Madrid, Paris, St. Lucia, New York, Chicago, Houston and countless other cities.

Refreshments will be served.
