Anna Spagnoli, M.D.

Anna Spagnoli, M.D., will join Children’s Hospital & Medical Center and UNMC as chair of the department of pediatrics. In addition to holding the Carol Remmer Angle, M.D., Presidential Chair, Dr. Spagnoli will serve as pediatrician-in-chief and senior vice president of pediatric services at Children’s, and as executive director of the Child Health Research Institute.

Dr. Spagnoli comes to Omaha from Chicago’s Rush University Children’s Hospital and Rush University Medical Center, where she served as professor and chair of the department of pediatrics and held the Woman’s Board Endowed Chair of Excellence in Pediatric Care, Research and Education. In her administrative role as chair, Dr. Spagnoli oversaw one of the largest departments at Rush University, including more than 110 physicians, 13 divisions, two residency programs, four fellowship programs and departmental research operations of more than $6 million of annual extramural research funding.

“Dr. Spagnoli is a multi-talented physician-leader with a proven track record of excellence in the areas of clinical care, research and academics, as well as extensive experience in building and leading teams,” said Richard G. Azizkhan, M.D, president & CEO of Children’s Hospital & Medical Center. “We’re fortunate to have someone of her caliber on our executive team as we look to grow and transform our institution into a leading pediatric academic medical center.”

“The partnership between the UNMC College of Medicine and Children’s Hospital & Medical Center has resulted in unparalleled growth and success of the Department of Pediatrics and, in turn, the quality of care for children in our region,” said Brad Britigan, M.D., dean of the UNMC College of Medicine. “Dr. Spagnoli’s accomplishments in all aspects of academic pediatrics and the leadership skills she demonstrated as the chair at another institution make her the ideal individual to continue this momentum and elevate the department and Children’s to be among the national leaders in pediatric education, research and patient care.”

Dr. Spagnoli will assume her new roles in early 2019.
