Jennifer Medlin, M.D., is a new faculty member at UNMC.
- Name: Jennifer Medlin, M.D.
- Hometown: Omaha
- Title and department at UNMC: Assistant professor, UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Rheumatology
Research interests:
My research has been in the area of late-onset lupus, looking at how the characteristics in this subset of lupus patients differs from the more classic early-onset form of lupus in order to better identify these patients early in their disease course.
How I fell in love with rheumatology:
I fell in love with rheumatology for many reasons. I have seen the positive impact a rheumatologist can have on a patient’s quality of life after witnessing this in a close family member who has suffered from a rheumatic illness for more than 20 years. I love the variety of the diseases we diagnose and treat, ranging from relatively straightforward to incredibly complex. It is a truly rewarding and cognitively-challenging field where we get to form close bonds with our patients.
Degrees:
- M.D., UNMC
- Residency, internal medicine, University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (2013-2016)
- Fellowship, rheumatology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2016-2018)
Memberships:
- Alpha Omega Alpha
- American College of Rheumatology
Three things people may not know about me:
- Married to my high school sweetheart.
- Love playing board games.
- Picked up cross-country skiing during residency.
Thank you for all that you do, Dr. Medlin!
Welcome to the team! (and yay for board games! 😉 )
