“Concussion Assessment and Management for the Primary Care Provider” will be the subject of a program being held from 1-5:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Truhlsen Eye Institute.
The event, which also can be attended via Livestream, will be hosted by the UNMC College of Nursing, Continuing Nursing Education.
There is a strong importance to caring and managing those with concussions. Concussions cause biological, neurological, and physiological effects after impact and continually can impact a patient’s well-being. These post-concussive symptoms need to be addressed with patients and families to ensure maximum recovery.
The best way to achieve this is to ensure health care professionals are updated with the newest information pertaining to concussion assessment and management. Clinical practices should be prepared to work with patients and families during this prolonged recovery and intervene to manage symptoms.
The program is intended for nurse practitioners, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, primary care providers, nurses, and other interested health professionals.
Learning outcomes will include:
- Identifying long-term consequences of concussions including the biological, neurological, and physiological effects;
- Educating patients and families about post-concussion signs/symptoms across the lifespan, to include physical, psychosocial, behavioral, and cognitive effects, to assist with early identification and treatment; and
- Discuss the essential resources and concepts of models currently in practice for use in your setting.
Registration is $30 and is required before Sept. 14. Register here.
