The implementation for the new ScrubEx machines will begin on Monday, July 30.
The implementation for the new ScrubEx machines will begin on Monday, July 30, in the colleague commons areas at Hixon-Lied and University operating room locations. The new machines will be located at:

  • University Tower, level one, near men’s and women’s locker room
  • Hixon-Lied surgery staff lounge

If you work in an area that requires wearing the green surgical scrubs, each user will need to register here. Colleagues will need their employee badge number to register. Approval time could take up to 24 hours. Please note, while registering, if a message says duplicate badge, you are already registered in the system.

Each user will be allotted two sets of scrubs. ScrubEx will not distribute more than two sets of scrubs to you prior to returning at least one set of scrubs.

To receive scrubs from the new machine, staff will swipe their ID badge, choose a scrub size, open the receiver slot door, take their scrubs, and close the door. A similar process is required to return scrubs.

“Every time a colleague deposits used scrubs, the machine takes a high-definition image of the contents,” said Amy McGinnis, linen manager. “In the event we receive a foreign object in the receiver, we can go back and see exactly which user deposited that item.”

Each user’s ID badge number and date of dispensing and return will be recorded. McGinnis says the new machine allows management to track usage, identify trends, calculate cost and optimize inventory.

“All of the ScrubEx machines talk to each other over the network,” McGinnis said. “If a user takes a scrub set from one location and deposits it in a different location, all machines get automatically updated in real time.”

If colleagues have any sets of scrubs in their possession, they must be returned to the current Pyxis machine by Tuesday, July 31.

Colleagues are kindly reminded that all surgical scrubs are to be returned at the end of the workday.

IPA will be onsite during the installation week to provide in-service support and answer any questions you may have.

A representative of the company will be on site Thursday, Aug. 2, to answer questions and demonstrate how the new machine works.
