Retirement tea set for George Rozanski, Ph.D.

The campus is invited to a retirement celebration for George Rozanski, Ph.D., from 2-4 p.m. June 28 in the Durham Research Center Commons areas. Light refreshments will be served, and remarks will begin at 3 p.m.

Dr. Rozanski is a professor of physiology and internal medicine, and he serves as vice chair of professional education for the department.

“Dr. Rozanski has served UNMC, the UNMC Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology and the physiology community in an outstanding and highly professional way for over 30 years,” said department chair Irving Zucker, Ph.D. “He has honored himself and UNMC by demonstrating excellent scholarship, teaching and service.

“Dr. Rozanski is well known for his meticulous studies on metabolic control of cardiac ion channels in health and disease. He has been a major contributor to our teaching program in both allied health and medical student courses,” Dr. Zucker said. “He has been a wonderful colleague. We wish him the best in the next phase of his journey and hope to see him often.”

Dr. Rozanski received his Ph.D. from the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago in 1981. He continued at Loyola University as a laboratory instructor in the department of physiology. He was a postdoctoral fellow and research scientist at the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory in Utica, N.Y., before beginning his career at UNMC as a faculty member in 1985.

He has been very involved serving on the curriculum development-circulatory block design team for the College of Medicine.

Dr. Rozanski has received many honors and awards during his tenure. He is a fellow in several organizations including the American Heart Association and its Council on Basic Cardiovascular Sciences.

During his career, Dr.Rozanski has published more than 100 journal articles, book chapters and abstracts.
