Director’s message: Thank you for giving

Karoly Mirnics, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Munroe-Meyer Institute

As we look back on Omaha Gives! 2018, the Omaha community’s annual philanthropic event to support area nonprofits, we see once again that Omaha is an amazing, giving community.

So is MMI.

MMI has five supporting boards, three of which — the Meyer Foundation for Disabilities, the Munroe-Meyer Guild and the Scottish Rite — took part in Omaha Gives. Together with the Hattie B. Munroe Foundation and the MMI Operating Board, these organizations focus their support on different aspects of the institution, as well as the institution as a whole.

Without them, the Munroe-Meyer Institute would be a shadow of itself, unable to deliver the quality care and services across the lifespan that we are known for – care and services that frequently are not reimbursed by insurance. Last year, the institute received nearly $2 million in philanthropic support, which enabled us to go further and do better – to positively impact the lives of many individuals who otherwise would have gone without services.

In the wake of Omaha Gives! 2018, it’s important to remember that no gift is too small — every dollar that was donated this year will impact the lives of those MMI serves.

So to all of you who supported the Meyer Foundation for Disabilities, the Munroe-Meyer Guild and the Scottish Rite this year as well as those that support us throughout the year, I would like to thank you and to assure you MMI will use your gifts to provide the care and services our families so desperately need.
