A retirement tea will be held Friday for Terry Vail of the UNMC Department of Facilities, Management and Planning, who will be leaving UNMC after a 49-year career.
The tea will be held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the University Tower Private Dining Room C.
After starting at UNMC in the laundry, Vail transferred to plant operations, which is now facilities, management and planning, in 1977 as a plumber/pipefitter, becoming a plumber supervisor in 1993. In February 2013, when the department began using maintenance zones, Vail was promoted to facilities operations coordinator, where he was instrumental in the success of the education and research zone.
During his career, Vail also taught plumbing courses for Metropolitan Community College, and he served on the board of the American Backflow Association, where he taught backflow courses and presented at the annual American Backflow Association Convention.

Terry, your knowledge, wisdom and expertise has guided UNMC's infrastructure and staff for many years. I couldn't have said it any better than Melanie though – your wit and sense of humor will be hard to challenge. I hope you have plans to relax and enjoy yourself and your family. Congratulations for all of your contributions and accomplishments ! – Katharine
Terry, Congrats. You have been a real pioneer on this campus. I often think of us riding Bus 15 during the years of the oil embargo. We experienced many events on this campus and you were always ready to jump in and help without hesitation. You understood the big picture.
How about one last ride on #15?
Good Luck
Keith
