Science on Screen explores ‘Spotless Mind’

“Science on Screen” will continue June 5 with “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” a film that explores memory and emotion.

“Science on Screen” is an innovative series that creatively pairs classic, cult and documentary films with lively talks led by notable figures from the world of science, technology and medicine.

Shown by Film Streams in collaboration with UNMC, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” follows Joel (Jim Carrey), who is stunned to discover that his girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) has had her memories of their tumultuous relationship erased. Out of desperation, he decides to have Clementine removed from his own memory. But as Joel’s memories progressively disappear, he begins to rediscover his love for Clementine. From deep within the recesses of his brain, Joel attempts to escape the procedure.

A panel discussion will follow the 7 p.m. film. The panel will feature Vaishali Phatak, Ph.D., and David Warren, Ph.D., professors in the UNMC Department of Neurological Sciences, and will be moderated by Soonjo Hwang, M.D., assistant professor of psychiatry at UNMC.

Tickets for this special screening at 7 p.m. June 5 at Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater, 1340 Mike Fahey St., are:
