Tell us about what you do here at UNMC.
I work in the Internal Medicine Department-Division of Nephrology, where I am coordinator of the Nephrology Fellowship Program. My job can be very challenging to explain, as it is always changing depending upon the time of year — which is the reason I love my job – every day is different. A few of the things I do are creating schedules and monitoring evaluation compliance, planning events, recruiting new fellows, leading orientations and advising the program director of new accreditation requirements, as well as making sure we are meeting all accreditation requirements. My favorite part of my job is being able to be a resource and even a confidant to our fellows and faculty. Over the past two years, I have had the opportunity to share some of my knowledge at a national level and be a resource to other coordinators dealing with some of the same difficulties across the country.
Accountability is one of UNMC’s ITEACH values: “Commit, Take ownership. Be resilient, transparent and honest. Always do the right thing and continuously learn.” Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group at UNMC exhibit this value.
I get to witness continuous learning every day in my position. As a teaching hospital, the faculty and fellows are constantly taking time to teach observers, students, residents, fellows, other faculty and even staff. I also have attended national meetings where I see faculty and fellows advance their skill-sets. On a personal level, I get to see coordinators share best practices. And, I have had the opportunity myself to stand in front of my peers and share some best practices. In this field, continuous learning and advancement is a priority.
