District 14 legislative candidate John Arch donned the Hololens and smiled.
He spent part of his afternoon tour of UNMC on May 8 at the iEXCEL Visualization Hub, where he also learned how existing health care providers and military personnel across the nation master and improve skills by practicing real-life scenarios in simulated and virtual environments.
Arch said he was impressed with the immediate application within the health care industry of technology, such as the Hololens.
As part of his visit, he also stopped by the Center for Advanced Surgical Technology and learned about the applications being developed there for minimally invasive surgery.
“It’s not just technology for the sake of new technologies — but for better patient care,” Arch said.
Ultimately, Arch said he was intrigued by stories about UNMC that he had read in the newspaper and seen on the news that made him want to visit campus.
Arch is executive vice president of health care for Boys Town National Research Hospital and director of the hospital. He plans to step down at the end of next year.
