“Every day that I come to work I have the privilege of engaging with some of the most dedicated and intelligent individuals in Nebraska. In addition, it has been an honor to be involved in the education of students from almost every discipline on campus.”

“It is too hard to pick one. Teaching is what first lured me into academic medicine so two of my favorite moments were when I received the Faculty Senate Teaching Award and separately the Golden Apple Award early in my career after being nominated by students. Both the Diabetes Center and the Clinical Research Center each required 10 years of lobbying and planning, so their official openings also were very memorable. And each year’s Distinguished Scientist event is a high point, because I continue to be inspired by the research and researchers at UNMC and look forward to sharing their work with others.”

Monty Mathews, M.D., assistant professor, family medicine, College of Medicine
“My most memorable experiences with my work at UNMC involves all the various settings, situations and opportunities that I have been able to interact with residents, students, colleagues and staff. The obvious are the clinic, hospital, labor and delivery and classrooms. But I have been blessed to work with wonderful teams of professionals and learners at sporting events, training rooms and make-shift areas at sporting events and service mission activities that foster team work, innovation and ingenuity to get the job done.”
