Three Department of Anesthesiology residents attending the 2018 Midwest Anesthesia Resident’s Conference in Cincinnati April 13-15 took home awards for their presentations.
Award winners were:
- Carter Mohnssen, MD, who won first place in the General Session for "Anesthetic Management of a Patient with Symptomatic Carcinoid Syndrome Undergoing Exploratory Laparotomy for Metastatic Carcinoid Tumor."
- Britta Dosland, MD, who won second place in the General Session for "Repeat Liver Transplantation in The Setting of Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome and Active Dabigatran Therapy."
- Matthew Sabatini, MD, who won second place in the Pediatric Session for "Emergent Cardiopulmonary Bypass for Hemorrhage and Cardiac Arrest During Diaphragmatic Hernia Repair in a Child with Menkes' Syndrome."
"We had a great time and everyone did a great job," said Charles Walcutt, MD, who accompanied the residents on the trip as a faculty mentor and judge for presentations that had no conflict of interest.
Department Chair Steven Lisco, MD, FCCM, FCCP, and Residency Program Director Jean Simonson, MD, MACM, also attended the conference.
Other resident attendees were Matthew Hagge, DO, Joshua Wiseman, MD, Gregory Campbell, MD, Ryan Birkland, DO, Joseph Plambeck, MD, and Stephen Brannan, MD.
The mission of MARC is to encourage research and scholarly activity in the 33 participating Midwestern and Canadian Anesthesiology departments. The residents share their work and collaborate in a friendly, educational atmosphere.
