Every summer during their 10-week research experience, INBRE Scholars spend Mondays, either visiting a biotech company in the state or one of the three research campuses to learn about graduate life.
That is about to change as the Monday summer seminar series is getting a facelift.
Scholars will still visit biotech companies but now four of those Mondays will be dedicated to lectures from researchers representing several of the scientific themes.
The students will hear from experts in cell signaling, cancer biology, and virology during separate visits to UNMC, Creighton University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
This new plan, said Paul Sorgen, Ph.D., director of the INBRE program, will benefit all three research institute campuses, the scholars, graduate students and faculty.
"It’s a great way to strengthen the summer program and further enrich the education of the scholars," Dr. Sorgen said.
