The sixth annual Nebraska Science Festival – presented by the University of Nebraska Medical Center and scheduled for April 19-28 – is around the corner. And, with a multitude of science- and technology-related activities in communities across the state, it’s not too early to plan your SciFest schedule.

Fred G. Dale Planetarium at Wayne State College – April 20, 21, 27, 28
Plan to attend any (or all) of our free 45-minute shows that span the first life on Earth, the formation of stars, and more. Planetarium shows also generally include a tour of the current night sky and a view of the constellations. Features and show times are listed, but visit the website for show descriptions and details.

Columbus Public Library Book Discussion Group – April 27, 7 to 8:45 p.m.
Join us to discuss A Warrior of the People by Joe Starita, the biography of Susan La Flesche Picotte’s inspirational life and dedication to public health. On March 14, 1889, La Flesche Picotte received her medical degree – becoming the first Native-American doctor in U.S. history. By age 26, this indomitable Indian woman became the doctor to her tribe. Overnight, she acquired 1,244 patients scattered across 1,350 square miles of rolling countryside with few roads. Her patients often were desperately poor and desperately sick – tuberculosis, small pox, measles, influenza. Join us and learn about this remarkable woman. Free. Registration is not required.
