COM resident of the month

Name: Jesse Cox

Medical school you attended/year you graduated:

I completed the M.D./Ph.D. program at UNMC, graduating with my Ph.D. in 2012 and my M.D. in 2014.

Residency/fellowship at UNMC: Pathology/microbiology

Program director: Geoff Talmon, M.D.

How long is your training program and how long have you been at UNMC:

My program is four years, and I’m in my final year.

What do you like the most about your training program:

The people in our program, both residents and staff, make our environment exceptional! It’s also wonderful to work with so many different specialties and professionals throughout the hospital.

What challenges do you foresee in graduate medical education in the future:

The amount and diversity of material to learn and master continues to grow at an exponential rate. Keeping tabs on where to focus effort will continue to be challenging.

List some accomplishments that you are proud of:

I’m most proud of a 3D-printed microscope mount we developed in our department as well as the small business I started as an extension of that project (www.yellowbasementdesign.com).

Tell us three things about you that others may not know:

1. My wife and I met in high school when we were involved with marching band.

2. Together, we have a son Jackson (9) and daughter Madison (4).

3. I still play with Lego.
