Courtney Frost is Gold U winner

Courtney Frost, an administrator for plastic surgery and neurosurgery, is the winner of the Gold U Award.

Frost, who has been at UNMC since 2007, started as the administrator in plastic surgery and also managed clinics during that time on an interim basis. In 2015, she added the neurosurgery administrator responsibilities.

“I really love the doctors and the people that I work with,” she said.

While working at UNMC, Frost also achieved her master’s in public health-health administration, as well as her CMPE (certified medical practice executive). She is working toward becoming a fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives through the Medical Group Management Association and plans to pursue her Ph.D.

Frost said she is proud to be part of UNMC’s mission.

“I’m here to help the physicians in whatever I can do,” she said. “Just being a part of this organization is something to be proud of. UNMC and what they do in research and teaching – even if you’re not directly involved in that every day, you feel like you’re proud to be a part.”

Nominators called Frost an excellent administrator.

“She must make difficult decisions and tough calls,” said nominator Becky Dugger. “She expects her staff to work to their potential and will let you know that you dropped the ball, but in a way that maintains respect and dignity as a person.”

Nominators also note that Frost works tirelessly with her providers.

“Sometimes she needs to tell them things that they do not want to hear, but they trust that she is doing what she can to help them,” Dugger said.

Frost’s supervisor, Carin Borg, called her dedicated and loyal.

“She works extremely well with all of her physician and Nebraska Medicine partners,” Borg said. “Having two totally different surgical divisions to manage, she knows about teamwork. Having double the work, and double the communication because of this, Courtney finds ways to be efficient and gets the most out of her teams.”

Frost said the award came as a surprise.

“It’s humbling and unexpected,” she said. “But I love the people that I work with, and I hope I treat them the same way that I expect people to treat me. At 10 years I’m the baby (in the department), and the relationships people have built here — and the administrators I work with — that just speaks volumes to what UNMC is.”
