State Sen. Ebke tours UNMC

Sen. Laura Ebke and her husband, Russell Ebke, M.D., tour the iEXCEL Visualization Hub.

Nebraska State Senator Laura Ebke marveled at the stereoscopic 3D image of the human heart she was seeing through the Hololens.

“You just walked through my heart,” Sen. Ebke said smiling, as another person in the room passed nearby.

Sen. Ebke and her husband, Russell Ebke, M.D., stopped by the iEXCEL Visualization Hub as part of their afternoon tour of UNMC on March 5.

Sen. Ebke who represents District 32, is chair of the legislature’s judiciary committee and her husband is a family medicine doctor in Crete, Neb.

A 1987 graduate of the UNMC College of Medicine, Dr. Ebke said a lot has changed in medical education since he was a student.

Sen. Ebke agreed saying, “It’s very neat to see the new technology, the neat applications, and we are really looking forward to seeing where this goes.”

As part of their afternoon tour, the couple also visited the biocontainment unit and the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.

“UNMC is an important part of our economic development and also the future of the state,” Sen. Ebke said.
