Rich Gumina, MD, PhD, will assume the role of acting chief of the division of cardiovascular medicine at the end of March when Vincent Pompili, MD, steps down as division chief of cardiovascular medicine to move on to the position of Senior Vice President and Physician Executive Director of the Novant Health Heart and Vascular Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“Vince’s work has enhanced our education mission and has been instrumental in shaping heart and vascular research in the division and on the campus,” said Debra Romberger, MD, chair of the Internal Medicine department. “I am grateful for Rich’s willingness to take on this leadership position and know that he will continue to move us toward our vision of a heart and vascular institute.”
Dr. Gumina, who started in January as the associate division chief for cardiovascular research, sees his goal as leading UNMC's cardiovascular research endeavor and helping build on both the basic translational and clinical research being conducted in the division.
