What made you chose to become the program director:
I always enjoyed resident education. I love to teach surgery. I feel like I am really accomplishing something in life by helping to train new urologists.
What challenges do you foresee in graduate medical education in the future:
Strain on health systems, hospitals, and programs due to increased regulations and requirements for resident education.
What are the strengths of your training program:
High-volume surgical experience, robotic surgery training, hands-on training.
List some accomplishments that you are proud of:
1. Being the first UNMC training program to complete a 10-year accreditation visit under the new ACGME accreditation system.
2. 40 percent of our residents go on to fellowships in the field of their choice at renowned institutions.
3. Many of our graduates stay in Nebraska and are still involved in resident education at UNMC.
4. Increasing resident scholarly activity since taking over as program director.
Tell us three things about you that others may not know:
1. I am an avid waterfowl hunter.
2. When it isn’t hunting season, I judge and participate in field trials with my two champion Labrador retrievers.
3. I travel a lot with my family and my favorite vacation so far has been Exuma Bahamas.
