UNMC events mark the holidays
UNMC marked the holiday season with two events this week: the Chancellor’s Holiday Tea, held on Dec. 11, and a holiday sing-along led by Robert Binhammer, Ph.D., on Dec. 12. Dr. Gold speaks at IPEC’s Interprofessional Deans’ Leadership Program
UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., was one of the presenters at the inaugural Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Interprofessional Deans’ Leadership Program (IDLP) held at the Association of American Medical Colleges building in Washington, D.C., between Nov. 29 and Dec. 1. In all, 42 deans and senior academic leaders across 15 schools participated in the three-day interprofessional education (IPE) program. Distinguished speakers representing leadership from dental, medical, nursing, pharmacy and public health education showcased best practice methods and models of interprofessional collaboration.

UNMC rink sets skating attendance record
On the weekend of Dec. 8-10, the UNMC ice rink had a total attendance of 554 skaters. This was a new weekend record, with the exception of the annual Skate-a-thon for Parkinson’s weekend events.

Gallagher appointed as director of research and evaluation at The Buffett Early Childhood Institute
The Buffett Early Childhood Institute at the University of Nebraska has appointed Kathleen (Kate) Gallagher as director of research and evaluation. In this position, Gallagher will play a leadership role in developing applied research and evaluation studies involving children from birth through third-grade and their families as well as the early childhood professionals who care for and teach young children.

Gallagher has been affiliated with the Buffett Institute for the past 18 months as the Cille and Ron Williams Community Chair for Early Childhood Education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. The Williams Chair was the first of four endowed community chairs that the Buffett Institute is working to establish across the University of Nebraska system.
