Dr. Shillcut featured on website for inspiring women in surgery

Sasha Shillcutt, MD, associate professor, anesthesiology, and vice chair of strategy and innovation, has been featured on the Inspiring Women in Surgery website. The website is geared to encourage women to go into the surgical fields. The authors are planning to publish a book and are considering Dr. Shillcutt for the cover of this book.

Dr. Merritt-Genore a fellow of the American College of Surgeons

HelenMari Merritt-Genore, D.O., assistant professor at UNMC, has been named a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Merritt-Genore is an assistant professor in the UNMC Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. She also is the associate program director of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Program.

Her areas of expertise include surgical ablations, coronary surgery, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, as well as general adult cardiac surgery.

Dr. Merritt-Genore received her D.O. at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. She did her residency in integrated cardiothoracic surgery at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.

The American College of Surgeons was founded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical practice and to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient. It is dedicated to the ethical and competent practice of surgery and is recognized as an important advocate for all surgical patients.

Dr. Barthold received national education award

Claudia Barthold, M.D., assistant professor and residency program director in the UNMC Department of Emergency Medicine, was awarded the National Faculty Teaching Award from the American College of Emergency Medicine (ACEP) in Washington, D.C. in October. The award is one of the top education awards for emergency medicine.
